GirlCodeLA Receives $150,000 Donation From Rapper YG
YG the Rapper and Entrepreneur has donated $150,000 to a startup company called GirlCodeLA to help bring in a new generation of women coders. YG attributes all this with a close relationship and business partner, Karen Civil.
GirlCodeLA was founded by Dez White an entrepreneur who transitioned her interests of technology towards application development into a success story. The organization GirlCodeLA aims to develop and expose young women to business, software engineering, and computer science.
With all participants having an awesome opportunity to learn as well as execute a plan to make a career through classes, hands-on training, and seminars, it's an amazing way to bridge the disparity and lack of diversity in tech. "Gender bias plays a role in the number of exposure students receive in regards to technology and coding," says the West Coast MC.YG also adds, “This leads to influence future decisions within their field, creating smaller opportunities for diversity. With my donation, I hope they’ll be able to expand their reach of future female coders and programmers.”
YG held a discussion through a mentoring session about how important it is to explore non-traditional career paths with each of the young coders being treated with new Beats by Dre headphones. “I want to make sure I’m doing my part. I have a daughter and I respect the G."For more info, visit GirlCodeLA
