Weed Reparations are REALLY Happening in California
We all know that recreational weed is legal in California. The war on drugs, as we all know, has locked up a disproportionate amount of African-Americans. Especially when it comes to marijuana related crimes.
In an attempt to provide reparations for those individuals who were jailed for offenses related to Marijuana possession, the City Council has approved a solid program to help these convicted felons get into the legal weed industry.Known as the Equity Permit Program, a form of economic reparations for people and neighborhoods affected by the war on marijuana, is a step in the right direction.According to Okay Player,In order to apply to be a part of the program, each applicant must
- be an Oakland resident
- have to reside in one of the six East Oakland police beats that fall under the program for at least two years prior to the date of the application
- maintain nothing less than a 50 percent ownership in the dispensary application
- will not be barred from the application because of a prior marijuana or cannabis conviction.
